Glow Bath

Glow bath was a huge hit. All it took was hitting the party supply store for some cheapo glow sticks, giving them a crack, and tossing them in the water. For the record, I hear tale of glow sticks available at the dollar store. It would take me about 45 minutes drive just to reach a dollar store. I was willing to get the 40 stick pack for $4 at the party supply store. And if I'm confessing here, I bought two packs because glow sticks are fun.

Lia's bathroom does not have a window. So we always have to have lights on during bath time. This morning (we're morning bathers) it looked like this. Dark right?!?

I took a picture with the flash so you could see Lia. She was really into just collecting them all and holding them. Getting them away from her after the bath was no easy task!

I did get one picture before Lia hopped in. It looked super neat. I took all her toys out and left her the glow sticks and a cup. Oooooo, Ahhhhhhhh!

Keeping up with the Christmans

In case you were trying to live up to our wonderfulness, here's what we've been up to...and it is truly glorious. Take example one...I cleaned out the refrigerator.

Lia is being silly. All the time. She likes to make funny faces, wear capes, dance, sing, count, and make animal noises. It's good being 1!

David lit this huge fire. It was bigger. However, my initial thought after seeing it flame up was not to grab the camera but see if everything was okay. It was hunky dory and my hubs was quite delighted.

The no poo experiment lives on. My hair is soft shiny and doing pretty well. Never mind the frizz as I was standing in the hot bathroom, and well, if I'm being honest, my hair is always a bit frizzy no matter what product is in it or not.

The weather has finally cooled a bit and we've been going to the park. It's actually cool enough to touch the equipment without fear of 2nd degree burns.

No Poo Experiment - Day 7

No self portrait today because I've been showering at night and forgot! But all in all, I love the no poo experiment. My hair always feels awful in the shower, as in I need 4 quarts of conditioner. But once I get out and my hair starts to dry, magic happens. It turns so soft and shiny (not greasy) that I can't believe it. So here are my positives and negatives so far...

Positives:
  • Hair feels clean
  • Hair smells clean
  • Shiny Hair
  • Cheap
  • Dry hair feels soooo soft
  • No nasty chemicals

Negatives:
  • Mixing and more mixing
  • Wet hair feels yuckola
  • If I get sloppy baking soda and vinegar in my eyes doesn't feel so good.
So I definitely think I'm going to keep this up. Less chemicals on my body and the water with just as good results seems like a winner to me.

My Hero

Lia is getting so very big but is still my baby in so many ways. She still likes to rock and sing, if she gets to choose the song and is in the mood. She still cuddles up on my lap and reads books, but has a tendency to throw them at me when I say it's time for a new one. She loves this cape, if you call her the king not the queen! I found this great poem (unknown author) and I think it explains it all perfectly...

I Love You

I am your parent, you are my child
I am your quiet place, you are my wild

I am your calm face, you are my giggle
I am your wait, you are my wiggle

I am your dinner, you are my chocolate cake
I am your bedtime, you are my wide awake

I am your lullaby, you are my peakaboo
I am your goodnight kiss, you are my I love you

I love you, Lia. ~Mommy

No Poo Experiment

This unflattering picture is brought to you by the no poo (and apparently no makeup) experiment. This is day one...I'll explain below.

No poo has absolutely nothing to do with your bowels...it has to do with your hair. Rather shampooing your hair. I'm going to the no poo revolution that is found on lots and lots of random blogs I've found. It involves skipping shampoo for a baking soda and water paste. You can then use apple cider vinegar as a conditioner. I've heard great results for those with thick, and/or curly wavy hair. I'm trying it. There are lots of warnings about a two week "greasy" period where your scalp gets used to making a 'normal' amount of oil instead of extra oil that is stripped away by shampoo. Again, this is all paraphrasing from lots of blogs.

So without further ado...

Day 1 Observations: I used probably more baking soda paste than necessary. I missed pouring some of the vinegar solution on my head but got most of it on. My hair feels and looks like it typically does after a shampoo/condition. It's still flat because I've been rockin the ponytail for several days due to this heat. Doesn't smell like vinegar...which I thought it would despite reading it wouldn't.
